We find beauty in the simplest things. We see it in the night sky, the sparkling new layer of snow on the ground, and the clear streams we pass ever day on our way to school. We tend to think of the hard things to make beautiful. We look at our selves and try to change it. Looking through a new magazine only to see impossibly thin models and other various things to make you feel like you should have skipped lunch today. You become self conscious, and forget about the beauty you used to hold. You paste expensive makeup on your face, and buy “fashionable” clothing apparel to make your self more beautiful. Sadly, you instantly lose the beauty we are all born with. Yes, I do agree that you should look somewhat put together and have some nice clothes, but you should never lose yourself in the thought of becoming better looking. I think the world has gone crazy over beauty to the extremes. People are forcing themselves to throw up, and get crazy amounts of unneeded (and uncomfortable) clothing articles. We need to stop caring about what other people will say. You should be you, and nothing but your honest self. The world is constantly changing, and that’s perfectly fine with me, but I feel as though we will no longer have the look you should love. Yourself.
I found inspiration from this link: Airbrush. What would you do in this situation? Would it be okay with you, or would you be angry if they had your photos airbrushed?
I don't think that I would mind, as long as it is not overdone, and I asked for it. Every time I see certain pictures, and I see I look stupid, it would help with kids self-esteem when they don't have to see that anymore. Just don't overdo it.
ReplyDeleteAs long as I can tell it's me I'm alright. Just don't remove anything or whiten teeth, just anything major. Don't get to the point where when the person looks back on their childhood they don't see what they really looked like.
ReplyDeleteIf I didn't ask for it, I would be horribly disappointed to find out that they airbrushed me. If I can't see me behind the make up, clothes, and everything else, there is something wrong.
ReplyDeleteI find it perfectly alright to get airbrushed a little, Models actually request it once and a while to make their photo's look better. You don't need anything to make yourself beautiful, and it's sad when people think they do.
If your fine with it, I see nothing wrong with it.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, people should care about what they look like. When going to school you should look some what composed, and not totally fallen apart. Although I agree Felicia, some people take it to extremes. People shouldn't spend hundreds of dollars on expensive clothes and make up. Beauty isn't the most important thing, and isn't what you should base your life around, but you should take care of your body.
ReplyDeleteI would only want it to be changed if their was something unnatural or embarrassing about the photo. I don't think parents should try and make their kids look like models in elementary school. They should be remembered for who they were when they were that age.
ReplyDeleteI can understand whitening teeth and removing blemishes....to an extent. But removing hair and changing a face is not right. Same goes for replacing teeth. A lost tooth is a sense of pride when you're young. Parents should like how they're children look and not change they're face altogether. But for self-esteem reasons i think the kids should decide...not the parents.
ReplyDeleteI think that I would be okay with it if they didn't fix up much. I would still want my picture to look like me, not some doll rendition. You shouldn't let this desire of perfection rule your life. People should take pride in how they present themselves as in looking pulled together. I do agree though that some people take it way to far to where you can barely recognize them without makeup or touch ups. I suppose I would rather leave my pictures untouched rather than fixing all of my natural blemishes.
ReplyDeleteIt's a choice. It's there if you want it but if you don't then it's not. It's not like you're forced or anything. Some people are delighted at these options others aren't so... happy. But it's not required so if you don't like it then so what? It's there for whoever wants it and it's not for whoever doesn't. Personally I wouldn't care if mine were "airbrushed". In fact I'd be more happy then mad. I mean I've got some horrifying pictures that I wished had been thrown away or better yet, never taken. Yet against my will they are stuck in a box or hung up where everyone can see then. I mean who wants to face the past? And who wants everyone else to meet your past? I know I don't. But then again, there's a whole new side to this argument. Every imperfection just represents the differences between us. And those poor first graders who were so excited to show their missing tooth and yet this memory has been erased and they have nothing to look back on. No one's perfect so why pretend to be? In the end I think it's a good option to have, but I think kids and teens should have the ultimate say in this choice. It's their photo's, let them decide how they'd like to represented...
ReplyDeleteI think that as long as it is not overdone and they ask my permission I believe that its fine. I do agree that everyone should be themselves. I also think that Americans now a days are going to extremes to make themselves thinner and "prettier" and I think that it is extremely unhealthy. I think everyone should just be themselves, sure you can use some makeup every once and a while but your face shouldn't constantly be stained with it.
ReplyDeleteThis all should go to some limit like blemishes and scars, like once for instance I had chapped lips and I didn't want that in the photo so we had it removed, nothing major. But I don't agree with changing kids hair, faces, and clothes. Being a kid should make you feel less sensitive to looks. I think as long as the kid can still see the real "them" then it's okay to be airbrushed.
ReplyDeleteThat's a hard one. I would like to be airbrushed to make me look better, but I would also be embarrassed when I went out in public and did not look the same.
ReplyDeletePersonally, When it comes to airbrushing (School pictures) it is just plain dumb. But when it comes down to (i.e) a Family Christmas photo your putting on a Christmas card, I can see that. But I do really think the world is way to "deranged" when it comes to looking "Perfect". It is impossible to look perfect, Just let people see who you are, they will usually like that better than the "fake" you.
ReplyDeleteAirbrushing pictures is part of a broader and "misguided" effort to make kids "perfect." Personally I think the photos should stay the same because otherwise you do look perfect and that isn't always good, that isn't always human.
ReplyDeleteWell, A lot of things you guys are saying are the things you wouldn't think about as a young child. I don't think many small children care, but when they grow up and look back at that photo only to see that their special scar is missing in the photo they loose the sense of the moment. Now as a teen, they probably don't care whether it is airbrushed or not, but I think as long as they are put together it does not matter if it is airbrushed.
ReplyDeleteI honestly wouldn't care because I think things like that are stupid or I just have no comment on them.
ReplyDeleteI don't care if people's photos are airbrushed. It's their own personal choice. I think you should care what you look like, and not be a mess. Although you don't need make up etc.
ReplyDeleteGah, Last post cut me short. I would hate it. Its a stupid waste of time for a stupid thing. Airbrushing photos is for those dumb enough to think that a small imprint of yourself will ever matter in real life. No one, anywhere, gives a crap about if your face looks pretty enough in that photo. People need to quit being prideful egomaniacs over something as trivial as looks and get a life.
ReplyDeleteI really don't think that the air brushing is needed and I also think that the idea is pretty stupid. Then again everyone is entitled to their opinion and so they can do it if they want to. My opinion is that it is a complete waste of time and there is no reason for it.
